To state that a "homestead" is merely a 'house, particularly a farmhouse and outbuildings, with the adjacent land - occupied and operated by a family' is not nearly enough of a definition any longer.
A homestead now, refers more to committed raison d' etre, an expression of how you intend to live - without the total dependence on corporate America that has become so very commonplace, but rather to provide - to the best of your ability - what you consume, from what you are and have.
Homesteading is exceedingly difficult.
And I don't think that anyone who has "been there, and done that" would disagree. The only pain worse than the one with wish you lay down your weary bones at night is the one with which you awaken the next morning.
You have no memory of having cried with such depth as when a newborn kid has died in the night, while you slept.
And all day long, you work a second job - because homesteading has become your first love. Even though...
That's the life of a Maine Homesteader.
Homesteading can be exceedingly lonely.
The Winters are long in Maine, but joy comes with the seed catalog.
You have looked for groups on social media, but are tired of the dictatorial algorithms and vain advertisements.
You want something close to home, practical, interactive, and most of all, helpful.
You really don't care about the politics of it - and you want to get along with everyone that knows the row you hoe...homesteading.
We are looking to create here a community of Maine Homesteaders that can...
and help one another make it through another year.
Thank you for joining us at...
